SHDHS Student Retreats

Freshmen/Sophomore Day of Recollection
This day is focused on having students reflect upon their relationships with God, family and others. It also stresses the importance of making healthy decisions. The day is co-ordinated and directed by members of the Junior and Senior class, and it usually includes witness talks by the upperclassmen on various faith topics such as prayer, abstinence, and Christian leadership. Students then have an opportunity to discuss these topics in small groups. The Day of Recollection takes place on campus during the normal school day hours. (Juniors and seniors not participating in this activity are involved in a community service project that runs at the same time.)

Junior Retreat - Christian Leadership
This retreat is a mandatory overnight retreat. It is staffed by senior leaders who are assisted by a faculty member in their small groups. The retreat is held at Woodland Lakes Christian Camp (WLCC) in Amelia, Ohio. The format generally follows listening to a senior/adult talk and then moving into smaller discussion groups. This retreat is designed to allow students to escape the routine of their school day and to spend time thinking about their relationship with God and others. The retreat also discusses and demonstrates facets of Christian leadership. The size of the retreat is generally in the range of thirty-five juniors.

Senior Retreat -Christian Awakening
These two senior retreats are voluntary and the cost is covered in a student's general fees. The retreats offer two different formats that help the senior student to see Christ and focus on their life in Christ now and beyond high school. Both run on a two-night three-day schedule at WLCC. Size is usually limited to thirty students per retreat.
