  • In 2004 The Memory Project was started by a young college student at the University of Wisconsin. Ben Schumaker was a volunteer at a Guatemalan orphanage and was disturbed by the poverty and how the children would grow up without being connected to their youth. So through art and the love to paint he decided to create portraits that could be given back to orphaned innocents in many countries. Ben Schumaker is interested in signing up more orphanages and high schools in order to give each child a new portrait every year. Please check out thememoryproject.org for more information.

Here is a list of places that you could contact for 1 time visit or weekly visits. If there is no contact name, then just ask for the volunteers coordinator.

There are many non-profit organizations, nursing homes, shelters, and childcare facilities that need your volunteer services. If you have a desire to work in a certain area and are unsure about whom to contact, please let me know and I will try to find a location that fits your needs and wants.

Thank you, Maureen Kaiser
