Social Security Card
Steps to obtaining a Social Security Card:
- You need to complete an application for a Social Security Card. You can pick one up at the
Social Security Office, call 1-800-772-1213, or go to Social Security On-Line and print one up.
- If you have had a Social Security Number (SSN) before - you will need to submit a current document to prove
your identity (cannot accept birth cert., hospital birth record, SSN card or any other SSA record) acceptable ID records would be - health insurance
card, school ID card, passport, etc.
- If you never had a Social Security Number before, in addition to above proof of identity a proof of age and
citizenship or lawful alien status is needed. (This will be your birth certificate if born in the U.S.A. and if not - Insurance documents
showing your status.) Also, if you are born in the U.S.A. and never had a Social Security Number before - you need the Social Security Numbers of your parents.
Remember it takes approximately 1- to 14 days to get your card in the mail. Make sure you give your current address and -- APPLY AHEAD OF TIME!
