| ACT Information
www.actstudent.org Most colleges use the ACT (American College Testing Program) or SAT
(Scholastic Aptitude Test) for College Admissions purposes. Some
colleges use minimum scores as a requirement for admission, while
others use these scores for placement purposes. Always check the
college of your choice for the appropriate admissions
test. Many colleges are accepting either test. You may take the admissions tests as often as you wish. Seniors are
advised to take these tests early in the school year so that a test
retake can be scheduled if desired. Juniors are advised to take
admissions test by the spring of their junior year. This gives them
time to retake the test. Students are advised to take the ACT at least
twice. ACT/SAT Preparation classes are available, please see a school
counselor if you would like information. A student who does not plan to attend college immediately after
high school should also take the ACT. Students may decide at the
last minute to attend college and will not have time to schedule an ACT test.
A student who chooses to delay entering college immediately after graduation, is more
likely to perform better on the ACT while still in high school.
Students are encouraged to register online at www.actstudent.org. Mail in registration packets are available on the bookshelf in the counselors' reception area. You must record the St. Henry District High School code #180-770 when completing your paper or online registration form. Practice test booklets
can be picked up from a counselor for self-study. SHDHS teachers offer ACT
practice sessions for seniors in October. These will
be announced during homeroom, posted on our bulletin board and the
"Announcement" page here in the Guidance Section of the SHDHS website.
There are also ACT practice classes students can take locally for a fee, see a
school counselor for more dates and details. Registration for ACT under Special Circumstances: Check the
ACT Registration Packet for special instructions. Only students with current,
documented disabilities, professionally diagnosed as having physical, sensory,
psychological/mental, or learning disabilities, and who cannot test under
standard conditions are eligible for special testing. Call Mrs. Susan Plummer,
on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:00 p.m. or Wednesdays until 11:00 a.m. at 525-5844
ext. 107
for more details. |
