College Application Time Table
Juniors
First Semester
- Take the PSAT test in October at St. Henry District High School.
- Meet with college admissions representatives who visit St. Henry
during lunchtime.
- Explore various colleges through their web site or stop by the
Guidance Department for info.
- Attend the National College Fair at the Duke Energy Center in the fall or the Northern
Kentucky Regional College Fair at TMC or NKU (on a rotating basis) in the fall.
- Colleges and scholarship programs are interested in students who
have outside activities such as volunteer work, church and/or
community involvement, sports, clubs, and part-time employment. Be a
leader in a group or for a project! Participate in something.
- Register to take the ACT or
SAT test at
least once in your junior year.
- Maintain your grades!
- Think about what career topic you want to attend on Career Day.

Second Semester
- Make an appointment with your school counselor to discuss college and career plans.
- Keep your resume' current recording yearly activities, awards, volunteer efforts, and employment.
Senior year will be much easier if you have this important information prepared.
- Contact the admissions office at colleges you are considering. Visit college campuses and make appointments with a professor in the department which interests you, an admissions representative, and a financial aid officer.
- Register for AP Exams by March / tests are given in May.
- Seriously consider what courses you will want to take in your senior year.
- Register for the ACT test. Students should take the test at least once in the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of the senior year.
- Maintain your grades, it will pay off in your senior year when you apply for scholarships.
KEES funds are also based on your GPA and ACT scores.
- Apply for a summer job-you'll need that money in college.
- Take the time to put some service hours into something you enjoy.
- Come to the Crusader College Connection-Junior Edition presented by the
junior counselor with your parents in the spring.
- Talk to Ms. Kammerer, Junior Class Counselor, if you are interested in applying to a
military academy or joining any branch of the military.
Seniors
SEPTEMBER
- Visit your school counselors to discuss college and career plans.
- Register for the ACT and/or SAT-take them in the fall.
- Attend the National College Fair at the Duke
Convention Center in the fall or the Northern
Kentucky Regional College Fair at TMC or NKU (on a rotating basis) in the fall.
- Check application deadlines-some are September-especially Military Academies and selective admissions programs to some colleges.
- Academy Nomination Application to your congressman is due usually by September 30.
- Attend the Crusader College Connection evening with your parents presented
by the senior counselor at SHDHS
- Make campus visits with your parents. Contact the admissions office at colleges you are considering. Visit college campuses and make appointments with a professor in the department which interests you, an admissions representative, and a financial aid officer.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER
- Sign-up to see Mrs. Daugherty for individual college and post
secondary counseling. All seniors should see the counselor at least once
by
December 1.
- Apply to colleges you would like to attend.
- Keep and eye out for scholarship offers you are eligible to apply for.
- Keep your resume' current.
- Scholarship applications should be filled out completed, neatly, and in a timely manner.
DECEMBER
- Complete and mail your college applications.
- Request letters of recommendations at least two weeks in advance from faculty members if needed.
- Make wise decisions on your Career Day session choices.
- Parents should begin to gather information for Federal Tax Return, which must be completed before FAFSA can be filled out. Student tax forms must also be completed. If you prefer, you may use last year's tax form and then update the FAFSA form ASAP.
- Watch all your application deadline dates.
JANUARY
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is
available online the first week of January.

- FAFSA should be completed ASAP. (January 1st-March 15th are priority dates for financial aide forms, some as early as Feb. 15th.). Do not delay.
- If you haven't applied to a few colleges, do so now!
- Don't let senioritis set in. Maintain your grades! Your acceptance into college is provisional. All colleges expect you to complete high school at your present grade average.
FEBRUARY
- February 15th - Priority deadline for financial aid. Applications are accepted throughout the spring, however, funds may be limited.
- Take full advantage of college and career professionals on Career Day.
MARCH
- Register for AP Exams by March / tests are given in May.
APRIL
- You should start receiving notifications from colleges and from financial aid.
- Call to withdraw applications and thank colleges you do not plan to attend.
- Maintain your grades! Your acceptance into college is provisional.
MAY
- Take AP Exams.
- Mrs. Daugherty needs to know where to send your final transcript. Be sure to
let her know what college you will be attending.
- Enjoy your last month of high school.
- Begin to think about a summer job.
