Financial Aid, Scholarships and Tuition Assistance
For current and incoming SHDHS students
SHDHS is committed to serving our community by providing the
opportunity to earn a college-preparatory, Catholic secondary education at SHDHS
to anyone who wants to earn it. No student has been turned away for inability to
meet the full tuition obligation.
Each year our Financial Aid Fund and Tuition Endowment continue
to grow! Last school year SHDHS dispersed close to $200,000 in financial aid,
multiple child allowances, discounts and credits. We have been able to
grant over 50% of the need of families who qualify. In every case this has
enabled the family to keep their child enrolled at SHDHS.
Many families ask us about work study programs. We have
offered work study in the past. We now prefer, in the best interests of
our families, to just grant the families the needed funds without requiring
students to work.
Financial Aid scholarships and grants are listed below. All scholarship awards at SHDHS
are based on financial need except for the Stan Robinson and Susan Wolff
scholarships which are academic awards to incoming 8th graders (see below).
All applicants must apply for financial aid through SHDHS each year.
SHDHS students can apply for financial aid starting at the end of January. Applications will be available by request
as soon as the
student is registered to attend school the following fall at SHDHS. All applications are reviewed and processed by Private
School Aid Service (PSAS), a third party financial aid firm. PSAS reviews the applications and
ranks them based on need. SHDHS then awards financial aid
according to available funds. Families are notified of their level of
financial assistance before the first payment is due in July. All
information in this process is completely confidential and all agreements must be
renewed annually.
Financial Aid Applications are normally due May 15th.
If you would like a financial aid application, please contact us at
859.525.0255.
Financial Aid Fund Sources
Funds for the Financial Aid Fund and Tuition Endowment are provided from
multiple sources:
1. Annual Giving Funds - are set up through pledges of annual gifts for $500, $1,000 or other amounts which are used the following year for financial aid.
2. Endowed Funds - require a minimum $10,000 initial donation. These funds can be honorary or memorial in nature. Many donors establish annual fundraisers (such as golf outings) to add to the principal amount each year.
3. Restricted Annual Appeal Gifts - We also receive many private donations to the fund from individuals, couples and families to provide funding for Financial Aid at SHDHS. These gifts are used to build the principle in the SHDHS Tuition Endowment Fund in order to generate increased earnings which are used each year to provide financial aid.
4. All profits from our Crusader
Store are deposited into the Financial Aid Fund.
5. The Annual SHDHS 10K Raffle provides every family
at SHDHS with the opportunity to raise money to pay for tuition.
Students and their parents sell raffle tickets beginning in
December.
If you would like more information about becoming a Financial Aid Donor for SHDHS, please contact Maureen Donnellan, Development Director at mdonnellan@shdhs.org or 859.525.0255.
