Guidance Announcements Please check back each week as we
try to keep you abreast of activities and announcements that pass through the
guidance office. The high school experience is enriched when students
reach beyond the confines of SHDHS and take advantage of a wide variety of
programs available in order to explore their interests to a greater degree.
All of these notices are also announced to students during homeroom. Sophomores and juniors may want to review the college scholarship listings on this site to see which ones appeal to you. Review the qualifications which make you eligible. There may be extra steps you can take over the next year to enhance your application. ________________________________________________________________ The 10th annual Cincinnati area Spring College Fair will be held on Sunday, April 25 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The fair will be held at Xavier University, Cintas Center. More than 150 college and university representatives will be available to you and there is no fee to attend. This will be expecially helpful to juniors and sophomores beginning their college search. Visit www.xavier.edu/collegefair for more information. ---------- Ms. Kammerer will present the Crusader College Connection Junior Night on Wednesday, March 10. The program begins at 7:00 in the cafeteria and with the assistance of a local college admissions representative will offer insight into beginning the college search process. All junior parents are encouraged to attend. ---------- It is that time of the year again to sign up for AP exams. Students received information about the exams in mid February, they received the Bulletin for AP Students and Parents and their registration form for signing up for the tests. The cost of exams this year is $86 each and the forms and money are due to the front office the week of March 15 -19. AP does have criteria for students to qualify for a fee reduction. Students who are receiving the free lunch program may qualify for this benefit. If you think you are eligible for this please contact Mrs. Daugherty before the registration deadline. All money must be turned in by March 19 because the tests will be ordered on March 22. If you have any questions you need to contact Mrs. Daugherty. ---------- Now is the time to begin to check into the possibility of attending a summer program. You can find journalism, health care programs, sports, outdoor enrichment programs or flying an airplane if that suits you. Just about anything you enjoy, you can find a program to attend. There are some programs that are free and others can be quite costly, but something to fit most budgets. Many students who have attended these programs established new friendships, enhanced their personal interest, or found an excitement for learning, as well as a nice addition to their resume'. Deadlines begin as early as January so be sure to check back occasionally. We continue to update our web site and announce any information we receive. For up-to-date info please go to the Summer Programs section of the Guidance web page. ---------- Three SHDHS teachers have generously agreed to offer ACT preparation classes after school to students in the Junior class. The sessions will be held from 2:45-3:30 and will be held as follows: English - Thursday, March 18 Any student participating must pick up an ACT Practice Booklet from the Guidance Office and compelte the English, Math or Science section of the booklet before attending the prep class. Students may attend one or all of the sessions. Sign-up sheets will be posted on March 15 in the Guidance Office for students wishing to participate. ---------- ACT/SAT The next SAT test will be held on March 13. Regular registration deadline is February 4. We do have information on prep classes outside of St. Henry available for a fee. Students should talk to a school counselor to get up-to-date information on spring classes. The counselors recommend that students take the ACT at least once in their junior year and again in the fall of the senior year. ACT and SAT test companies are encouraging students to apply online this year. Please go to the ACT or SAT section here in the Guidance Dept. web page for more dates, details and web sites. Students must use the St. Henry District High School code 180-770 when registering for these tests.
